A BASIC Mystery with a Twist
I found a gem on bombjack's site. It is a truly novel, literally, way to teach the Basic programming language on the Commodore 64. Written by Lee Berman and Ken Leonard, The BASIC Explorer for the Commodore 64: Solve the BASIC Mystery! is perhaps the most intriguing programming book that I have ever run across. I am a fair way into the story and wanting to see how everything pans out in terms of both the mystery and the pedagogy. So far it has been a hoot. I'd love to see a film version made.
Sadly, I cannot find any print copies of the book. It has been listed with many book sellers over time. However, they all indicate that it is no longer available. I ran across a pdf version of the book while perusing the Basic Books at DLH's Commodore Archive which is a virtual Aladdin's cave of goodness. Enter said cave here. If you are interested in retrocomputing, do yourself a favour and have a look around. Be sure to keep an eye open for this very interesting mystery book! Scroll down the page about three quarters of the way and it's on the right-hand side.
You might be interested in the Retrocomputing Project as it unfolds out over time, as well.
